If for example you want a sentimental tattoo search for this type of tattoo, look at the size of other peoples tattoos, where they are on their bodies. You will then have an idea of where you want yours and how large or small you want it to be.

Once you have this information and have an idea of the size and location you want your tattoo, use a pen and draw a circle or square on that part of your body. This will give you an idea if the size and location is right for you. If you are not 100% sure on the size or location then you can easily wash the pen off and try other areas and sizes until you are happy.

Now you have the location and approximate size of your tattoo in mind its time to look for a design. Keep looking at other peoples existing tattoos and keep images of ones you like, or even parts of tattoos you do and do not like. With this you can take them to a tattooist and create a design that you love.
